How To Get Involved

The families Under Construction (UC) assists have diverse needs. As such, we need and welcome the involvement of people with various interests and skills. Using power tools is not required! We could use help at a number of different levels.

· Join the core UC Team. The primary purpose of Under Construction is spiritual formation. We are on a journey of discipleship. It is necessary to do discipleship in community. We need others to join us on this discipleship journey. This core group functions as a LIFE group with UC as its primary outreach. In addition to attending to the work of UC, we do all the other things life groups do. We meet every Wednesday night from 7 to 9 PM.

· Help us build beds. If you like using your hands, come help us build when you can. We meet every Wednesday night from 7 to 9 PM. When we are pushing to finish some beds we meet on Sundays from 3 – 5:30 PM.

· Help us work with families. UC develops relationships with needy families and the agencies that work with them. UC does assessments on families that are referred to help identify the most appropriate way to help. The needs are unique to each family and range from social support to mentoring and financial assistance. If you don’t like power tools, but have the gift of working with people, we could use your help. We like to life-walk with the families over time.

· Contribute need items. Many of the families UC works with have basic needs. Based on our assessment and how we feel God would have us best help, UC will put the word out among the larger body at Grace of the specific needs. UC maintains a household items pantry for the families we serve. We need furniture and other household items that are in good condition. We are always in need of twin size mattresses in good condition.

· Help us pay for the materials. The materials needed to provide beds to families include the wood and supplies needed to build the beds (about $250 per bunk bed), new twin mattresses ($100 each), and bed linen (about $75 per bed). In addition, UC uses donated money for other basic needs (e.g., food, utilities, deposits) as appropriate.

· Help us pray for families. We want to keep our families and ourselves in prayer. UC posts current praise and prayer requests on their website here.
